MAG Graduates Trip to Uganda

Mag Trip to UgandaThe entire 2014 Manchester Airports Group graduate intake alongside two members of the HR department was very fortunate to visit Uganda in February 2015 with Medcare. During the (packed) week visit, we were involved in a range of different activities; from organising a sports and crafts day at a local school to painting the interior and exterior of a home.

During our visits to the orphanage at Bukulule, Wellsprings Medical Centre and the school in Kamutuuza it was clear to see the children loved the small toys, sweets and bubbles we have brought in our cases. It was apparent from the moment we stepped off the minibus in Bukulule that the children were really excited to meet us, all of them rushing over to give us a big welcome hug.

On our second day we split into two groups and each painted a house that had been funded by Medcare (or an affiliate). Next to the new houses were their current homes which suffered from damp conditions, were structurally unsound and no electricity to list but a few issues. This was a striking reminder of the poor conditions that families in Uganda have to combat every day, with a significant portion suffering from diseases as a result.

It would be wrong in this blog not to mention the great work we witnessed carried out by the Medcare team. During our visits to Wellspring, we saw first-hand the life-saving care Ibrahim, William and the rest of the Medcare staff provide to ill, suffering vulnerable children.

A number of colleagues from Manchester Airports Group have teamed up with Medcare and been able to see the impact the have on Ugandan lives and greatly appreciate the difficult, yet, rewarding work they do.
